Art III Syllabus 1st. Semester

 

 

Week One

Lesson: Sketchbooks as Artist’s books.

 

Learning Objectives:

- Students will…

·         Become familiar with the process of sketching and creating a scrapbook.

·         Learn how to develop a journal through the semester class (idea continues from Art I and II).

·         Understand the idea of sketching as part of the creative process and development of an artwork.

·         Create a visual diary.

·         Techniques: pencil, collage and markers and any media available.

 

Activities:

-          The sketchbook will be use during the year for sketching class projects.

-          15 minutes creativity exercises.

-          Students will create personal pages using mix media during the semester.

                        

 

 

 

Week Two

Lesson: Drawing, warm-up exercises.

 

Learning Objectives:

- Students will…

·         Do a series of drawing using their left hand (right hand if student dominant hand is the left).

·         Know how to “let it go” and not pretend to control all aspects of the drawing.

·         Know how to concentrate in the details of the subject.

·         Be able to achieve hand-eye coordination.

·         Warm-up exercises using charcoal and graphite pencil.

 

Activities:

-          Warm-up drawings using the left hand.

-          Series of 45 minutes drawings changing from the left hand to the right hand.

-          Blind drawings

-          Presentation of samples from various artists’ works.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week Three

Lesson: Jack and Jill Problem - Creativity.

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Integrate visual arts, graphic design and literacy.

·         Use of negative and positive space along with scale to create a meaning.

·         Know to encompass illusory space and the dynamics of scale and composition.

·         Respond creatively to literacy problem.

 

Activities:

-          Students will work with hand out provided that explains and give examples of the project.

-          Teacher will model the technique and will present a series of related work samples.

-          View examples from past solutions by previous students.

 

 

Week Five and Six

Lesson: Self-Portraits.

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Understand that through introspective thinking, reflection, and expression we grow as artists.

·         Understand that large scale formats create a different impact than smaller ones.

·         Understand that physical health is important to achieve/complete large format works.

·         Integrate visual arts and psychology.

·         Work in large format.

 

Activities:

-          Student will view sample artworks related to the project.

-          Students will made self portraits in their sketchbooks while meditating in themselves and how they will portrait them in the large format.

-          Students will study the color spectrum and how they will apply it in their work.

 

 

Week Seven and Eight

Lesson: Road Signs - Creativity.

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Integrate visual arts, graphic design and literacy.

·         Create many possibilities to one single problem

·         Design with simplicity a very complex task.

·         Understand the use of color for powerful road sign design.

 

Activities:

-          Students will work with the hand out that explains the project.

-          View sample of past successful designs.

-          Sketch preliminary ideas and work them into final shape.

 

 

Week Eight, Nine and Ten

Lesson: The Soul of Japan.

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Integrate visual arts and world cultures.

·         Understand the richness of Japanese culture

·         Create unique pieces of art based on Japan’s traditional icons.

·         Understand the link between art and history.

 

Activities:

-          Students will sketch final idea.

-          Internet research focusing on history, culture, art, geography and religion of Japan.

-          View work samples from Japanese artists.

-          Group dialog and critique.

-          Create final work: umbrellas.

 

 

Week Eleven and Twelve

Lesson: What you don’t know…

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Integrate visual arts and health.

·         Understand that there are many health issues out there and how to prevent them.

·         Understand that physical and psychological healths are important and value.

·         Create successful ad campaigns promoting awareness.

 

Activities:

-          Students will discuss ideas and suggestions.

-          View work sample of successful ad campaigns around the world promoting health.

-          Document data from internet, book, magazines, etc.

-          Create final piece: an Ad/poster that raises awareness of selected health issue.

 

 

Week Thirteen, Fourteen and Fifteen

Lesson: Sound - Creativity.

 

Learning Objectives:

-          Students will…

·         Integrate visual arts, graphic design and literacy.

·         Understand the use of metaphor as part of the graphic design vocabulary.

·         Learn the use of symbolism, abstraction and typography.

·         Use space and color to reinforce the drama of the given concept.

 

Activities:

-          Students will follow and discuss directions given in the hand out.

-          View some sample of artworks related to the project.

-          Sketch ideas for final piece.

-          Create final piece: graphically represent sounds indicated by the teacher, like sound of a clock.

 

 

Week Sixteen

HS Exams.
