Middle School

August 22, 2016

Dear Middle School Parents,

Welcome to another exciting year at CMS’s Middle School and I am delighted to start my fourth year as the Middle School Division Principal.  I look forward to welcoming all of you and every one of your children and to playing a major role in their middle school experience in the coming months. I am also happy to welcome a new assistant principal for student success as well as some new teachers to the Middle School Division for the upcoming school year 2016/17:

  • Brian Combes – MS Assistant Principal for Student Success

  • Kim Culligan – Grade 7 Language Arts

  • Virginia Carter-Melo – 6th Grade Math

  • Matthew Jones – 8th Grade Math

  • Amy Sidran – Grade 6 Science

  • Mary Gamache – Grade 8 Science

  • Rosmery Mejia – MS OLC Instructional Specialist

  • Providencia Payano – MS Administrative Assistant

We, at CMS, have a strong and focused academic program that holds students to high standards in the core academic subjects, the arts, technology, and physical education. As part of the CMS faculty, I have committed myself to the TRIBES agreements and will continue to emphasize “personal best” and “mutual respect”, in particular, throughout the year. I am a firm believer that exceptional effort and determination can overcome virtually any barrier to an individual’s success. The trick is instilling this strong desire to achieve in all of our students. This is exactly what we, as a faculty, aim to do this year.

To complement our academic program, we offer an incredible array of activities and experiences for our middle school students, including plays, concerts, class trips, athletic competitions and guest speakers. In addition, our students will have the opportunity to participate in organizations such as National Junior Honor Society and Student Council, and become involved in a range of community service projects that serve our local community. We will again be offering a variety of clubs as part of  the  Advisory Program, which will allow each of our students to participate in brief “mini-courses” that afford student the opportunity to explore areas of interest as they continue the process of self-discovery that is so important at this age. All in all, there is something for everyone and FUN is a major component of life in middle school.

In the past we normally sent documents on the first day of classes home for parents to review and to sign. However for the current school year we decided to link these documents to our school website www.cms.edu.do and request that you become familiar with the following important documents before our annual Back to School Night on August 31, 2016 at 5 pm in the CMS Gymnasium. At this event parents will be signing when they meet their child’s advisory teacher for the school year 2016-2017.

  • Parent Student Handbook

  • MS Program of Studies

  • MS Grading Policy

  • BYOD / Student Network Agreement

We look forward to meeting all of you in the coming months, and we welcome you to, what is certain to be, another exciting year in the Middle School.
