Curriculum & Assessment
- Details
Carol Morgan School is deeply committed to creating a world class educational experience for our students. We believe that a solid curriculum and assessment program are the linchpins for ensuring that students are provided with the knowledge, values, and aptitudes they will need to lead and thrive in a 21st century global environment as defined by our school mission.
We are a college preparatory school that implements an American curriculum aligned to US national standards and benchmarks. Our PK-12 program has been developed to provide a rigorous, comprehensive, and seamless curriculuar program. Students enjoy the opportunity to engage in a well-rounded educational experience that includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Modern Languages, Fine Arts, Physical Education & Health, and Applied Technology. We also offer a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses in the high school.
Additionally, all seniors complete a college-level research paper for 12th grade English. The paper, called the Extended Essay, requires students to research a narrow topic in considerable detail, generate an original thesis, and compose a succinct 2500-3000 word essay. Each student’s work is overseen by his/her English teacher, content advisor, and the high school librarian, providing for in-depth instruction and assessment of the paper’s content, writing style, and correct MLA documentation. The Extended Essay takes the students through every step of the research process, including annotation of sources, writing outlines, writing/editing/revising the paper, learning proper citation and bibliographical format, and finally, orally defending a narrow thesis for a panel of evaluators.
