Choir and Band Trip to Toronto
The Symphonic Band and HS Advanced Choir just finished a very successful trip to Toronto, ON, Canada. While there they participated in the Music Alive festival in Richmond Hill and the band received a rating of Platinum and the choir received a rating of Gold. Band and Choir Concert and Trip
The CMS Symphonic Band and Advanced Choir will be travelling to Toronto, Ontario, Canada from April 17-21. During this trip they will compete in the North York Regional Music Festival, see the Wizard of OZ, eat completely in the dark at the restaurant "O Noir," watch an NBA Basketball game, watch a MLB Baseball game, go to the opera, visit Niagra Falls, eat in the revolving restaurant on top of the CN Tower, see a play called "True West," and go curling.

Flag Day - Comparsas - Fine Arts Dominican Festival
All of the CMS artists and performers were busy during the month of February preparing for the Flag Day ceremony, the Fine Arts Dominican Festival, and Comparsas. During the Flag Day ceremony the CMS Symphonic Band treated the audience to Compadre Pedro Juan and La Bilirrubina as people entered the gym. Fine Art Dominican Festival
On February 21st the Fine Arts team will host the Fine Arts Dominican Festival. This event will take place outside of the Fine Arts Pavillion during the school day. Dominican artists, artisans, and food vendors will be invited to CMS and students will have a chance to purchase their wares. Actors portraying traditional Dominican roles will mix with the crowds throughout the day and musicians will entertain with merengue music. What is the Traveling Sketchbook Project?
"The Traveling Sketchbook Project 2012-2013" consists of ten different sketchbooks traveling around the world. Under the direction of Raquel Baez, Artworks and writings were created by our first, second, and third grade students. The main objective of this project is to promote tolerance, visual and written communication between individuals of different countries, multiculturalism, and global awareness. Over 75 Elementary and Middle School students are participating in this year’s holiday musical SEUSSICAL…..developed from the creative imaginings of the amazing artistic mind of Dr. Seuss. The play follows the stories of Horton the Elephant, JoJo the Who, Mayzie LaBird and her Nest, Gertrude McFuzz, and even includes a rounding rendition of Green Eggs and Ham! Fine Arts Showcase
The Fine Arts Showcase took place on November 1st this year. Students thrilled the audience with exciting music, dancing, and drama. The perimeter of the gym displayed the creative works of students in 2D and 3D art classes and Jenifer Norman's classes demonstrated what they were doing in her technology classes. Fine Arts/Technology Showcase
On Thursday, November 1st CMS will host this year's first Fine Arts/Technology showcase in the CMS gym. The doors will open at 6:30 pm and the talent show performance will begin at 7:00 pm. This event will feature an art exhibition of students' works from the MS and HS art classes. For the first time the technology department will also display projects being created in their classes and with their extra-curricular clubs. Symphonic Band Plays at Bonfire
The Symphonic Band performed for the first time this year at Friday's Bonfire. They got the crowd excited during the boys and girls volleyball games with a variety of pep band pieces. They also performed the CMS Fight song while the rest of the school sang the CMS cheer.

Congratulations to the visual arts students and staff. Despite the wet weather, many people came to the CMS pavilion to celebrate and purchase works of art created by CMS students. Helping Hands raised RD$55,000.00 and all of the money went towards Futuro Posible.

SYMPHONIC BAND AND ADVANCED CHOIR
The Symphonic Band and HS Advanced Choir left Santo Domingo on Wednesday to visit Chicago, IL. During this trip the groups will perform in the Heritage Music Festival, watch the Chicago Symphony, watch “Bring it On,” the musical, see an NBA basketball game, visit Northwestern University, and tour the city.
To prepare for this trip, both the band and choir performed a concert at CMS on Monday March 13th. Both groups performed beautifully and will represent the school very well while on tour.
