Athletics is back in action for another year of sport at Carol Morgan. Baseball and Volleyball are underway with the exciting news that CMS will be hosting the Season 1 CAISSA Volleyball tournament November 6-10th.

The Copa Coca-Cola soccer team had an amazing season, being crowned champions of Santo Domingo in this prestigious tournament. In the national final, unfortunately, they were defeated 2-0 by Jarabacoa. This is the farthest the CMS Copa Coca-Cola team has ever reached in this tournament, and should be very proud of themselves! The Varsity Boys Basketball team and Varsity Girls Soccer team recently returned from the Season 2 CAISSA tournament in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It was a very good tournament, with lots of close competition, cultural exchange, and lots of fun.

The Athletic Department has had an exciting couple of weeks here at CMS! Our Girls Soccer and Boys Basketball teams have begun competing with local schools, preparing for the CMS Season 2 Invitational and for CAISSA at the Varsity level.

The Varsity Volleyball competed in the Season 1 CAISSA tournament in Quito, Ecuador Nov. 7-11, where they competed against ISPS from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, AC from Quito, Ecuador, and ECA from Caracas, Venezuela. The CMS teams competed hard, and improved every step of the way.

Season 3 CAISSA in Venezuela Cancelled
As most of you already know, Season 3 CAISSA for girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer was cancelled this past weekend because of a prison riot at “La Planta” prison in Caracas, Venezuela. This riot was the culmination of a three-week prison standoff that pitted armed inmates against troops. Venezuelan officials said the last of more than 1,600 inmates filed out and agreed to be moved to other prisons, shutting down the overcrowded “La Planta”.

Season 3 CAISSA for boys soccer and girls basketball will be held at Escuela Campo Alegre in Caracas, Venezuela from May 18th to May 22nd. CAISSA (Caribbean Area International School Sports Association) is a great way for our athletes to showcase their talents against teams from around the Caribbean, including Escuela Campo Alegre from Venezuela, Academia Cotopaxi from Ecuador, and the International School of Port of Spain from Trinidad and Tobago. We had a great tournament this past week! Our teams met with some strong competition and improved throughout the tournament. We came in 2nd place in girls’ soccer and our boys’ basketball team won the championship! The teams did a wonderful job!
